Introducing Veynuus Industry Talk: A Quarterly Platform for Research, Insight, and Dialogue
Veynuus is announcing the launch of Industry Talk, a recurring quarterly platform that brings together industry experts, policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders for focused, evidence-driven discussion of the sectors that matter most.
Each edition will concentrate on a single industry, with Veynuus publishing and presenting original papers, research and data relevant to that field. The intention is not to restate what is already known. It is to put new material in front of the people who can act on it, to test assumptions that have gone unexamined for a long time, and to hold a discussion in which disagreement is useful rather than avoided.
Why quarterly, and why a paper first
The interval is deliberate. Research takes time, and a convening that happens monthly becomes a networking habit rather than a working session. Each edition is anchored to a piece of work Veynuus has actually done, published before the room meets rather than presented to it on the day. Circulating the material in advance changes what happens in the discussion: participants arrive having read the same evidence, and the conversation starts from disagreement about interpretation rather than from an exchange of impressions.
It also sets a standard the firm has to meet. Committing to publish original material four times a year is a commitment to have something to say. That constraint is the point.
What the platform is for
Industry Talk reflects a view of what an advisory firm ought to be doing beyond its client work. The quality of decisions in any sector depends on the quality of the information and the conversation behind them, and in Somalia and neighbouring markets, sector-level convening of that kind is thin. Events are commonly organised by donors, timed to a programme cycle, attended by the same institutional representatives and concluded with a communiqué that nobody refers to again. Independently convened discussion, with published material behind it and no funder's results framework to satisfy, is rarer than it should be.
Veynuus is funding the platform itself, which is a deliberate choice. A convening paid for by an interested party has to manage that interest, however carefully it is run. This one does not, and the firm intends to keep it that way.
The first edition
The opening edition focuses on higher education in Somalia, examining what universities owe the next generation and what genuine reform would look like in practice. The subject was chosen because it is one on which every party holds a strong position and the shared evidence base is thin — the conditions under which a convening is most likely to be worth attending.
Educators, policymakers, industry leaders and students are all invited. Students are being invited as participants rather than as an audience, on the straightforward ground that decisions about curriculum, accreditation and institutional priorities are routinely taken about them without them.
