- Inside a campaign where Somali youth turned civic action into lasting change—and celebration
In cities across Somalia, youth-led energy transformed into action. Streets were cleaned. Walls were painted. Pride was restored. And for a few weeks, the country watched as young people showed what local leadership and civic spirit really looks like.
The XUSOOXAAQO Campaign was more than a competition—it was a movement. Somali youth from various districts competed to improve the cleanliness and beauty of their communities. The effort turned into a national spotlight moment, where city pride met environmental activism.

The Winners: Civic Action with Real Rewards
After rounds of on-the-ground work, video evidence, and public feedback, the top-performing districts were officially announced:
🥇 1st Place – Degmada Carmo: $2,500
🥈 2nd Place – Degmada Kaxda: $1,000
🥉 3rd Place – Degmada Baydhabo: $800
These awards recognized more than beauty—they celebrated community ownership, creativity, and teamwork.
Gratitude Where It’s Due
Special thanks go to the Minister of Youth and Sports, whose commitment to supporting Somali youth was instrumental in raising the funds that powered this initiative. Without his backing, this campaign would not have reached the scale or visibility it achieved.
A Model Worth Repeating
XUSOOXAAQO reminded us that when youth are resourced and respected, they don’t just show up—they lead. They organize. They inspire. And most importantly, they deliver.
Veynuus is proud to have played a small part in a big idea—and we remain committed to uplifting youth-led movements across Somalia and beyond.
